Event Time and Date
Volunteer to spend your afternoon serving Gleaners, one of Southeast Michigan's largest distributors of food to local food pantries.
"Gleaners is a vital link between available food and those who need it most. Local and national producers have surplus food that may otherwise go to waste for lack of a way to safely and efficiently bring it to market. Human service agencies face tight budgets and increasing demand for services. Our expertise and facilities bring these valuable resources together to help ease the problem of hunger.
Gleaners has developed efficient, reliable methods for handling a tremendous volume of all kinds of food. Five distribution centers bring food closer to those in need, saving member agencies time and money that they can use in providing food for our hungry neighbors."(gcfb.org)
Gleaners is located at 2131 Beaufait, Detroit, MI . You may park in the lot across from the warehouse and enter through the green door under the large Gleaners Food Bank sign. Please check in at the front - you should see a sign that says "Visitor check in".
You should arrive only 15 minutes prior to the start of your shift. Doors will be locked until 8:45 or 12:45 p.m. Additionally, as a safety requirement, closed-in shoes are required for all volunteers (preferably boots or athletic shoes).
*Group photographs will be taken at the start of the shift with those members here.
*On cold days please layer your clothing.
*On warm days you can wear knee length shorts
